There is an opinion piece in USA today titled, "Christian Nationalism is a threat and not just from capital attackers." You can read it here. But be warned... its hateful and bigoted. Its also deeply concerning.
What this woman calls "Christian Nationalism" is the mainstream Christianity of millions of Evangelical and Reformed Christians. Gary North is NOT a villain.
This is concerning, because the rhetoric she is using sounds a whole lot like the rhetoric applied to the Jews leading up to World War II. Which is totally ironic considering that the author of this hate filled OpEd is a Jewish Rabbi. But here we are and I can't help but wonder what she wants to do with all of us. What is the "final solution" to the Christian nationalism question? Perhaps she will tell us in her next piece.
How did we get here? Some will tell you that its all Donald Trump's fault. But that's not true. This has been brewing for some time. Mr. Trump just exposed it and that might be a good thing.
The problem here is that the culture is a post Christian one. The world at large has no concept of Christianity or the Christians that believe it. We're partly to blame for that. We've taken the command to be in the world, but not of the world to mean that we should not engage the world, that literally the opposite of what that means. But here we are making our own subculture instead of influencing the wider culture. Now someone can say, "Christian nationalism is a problem" and mean that "Christianity is a problem" and no one knows the difference.
Take North as an example. Christian reconstructionism isn't fringe theology. Are there fringe elements to it? Sure! What movement doesn't have fringes? But by and large the Christian reconstructionist movement isn't out in left field. Many good and godly Christians have embraced it and now they are being called a danger and enemies of the state? That's not good!!! Thats not good at all.
The whole point of the gospel is that Jesus is Lord. Not just of my individual and personal life, but of everything else too. Jesus is Lord of the church, of the nation and Jesus is Lord of Rabbi Rachel. Religious pluralism, as she calls it, is not the belief of the Christian church. Jesus Himself says, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one come to the father but by me." No one comes to the father but by him. That's not pluralism. That's the gospel.
So then now our faith is under attack. Rabbi Rachel will have you believe that true Christianity is a Christianity that believes everything and at the same thing nothing at all. But true Christianity is actually what she vilified in her article here. These people hate us, Jesus warned us about that, and now they are being empowered by an administration that opposes everything we believe. Dark days are here. Buckle up.
